Have fun but steer clear of trouble and drink driving, North Devon inspector warns festive party-goers

Festive revellers in North Devon have been reminded not to become a crime statistic this Christmas.

As the region gears up to party, police are making their own plans to keep the streets and roads safe during the Christmas period.

North Devon Sector Inspector Roger Bartlett said with so many people out celebrating, the force would be making sure it had the resources in place to deal with any problems and with extra police visibility on the streets.

He said: "We would ask people to enjoy themselves but be mindful about how much they are drinking and their behaviour - and certainly to avoid the temptation of taking other substances than alcohol."

Insp Bartlett said the police would be working closely with licensees of pubs and clubs to ensure safety in busy areas.

And he warned people to beware of being over the drink drive limit the following day, saying a number of traffic operations were planned for the festive period.

He added: "If you have been drinking a lot, be mindful that you may well be over the limit the following morning.

"The last thing we want is for the Christmas celebrations to see someone either getting seriously hurt or losing their licence."
