Two attempts were made at night to steal handbags from women in the street

Witnesses are being sought after a double attempted handbag snatch in Bideford town centre.

Both happened on Thursday (February 18), the first at around 8.50pm at the junction of High Street and Pitt Lane when a man approached a lone 30-year-old woman and tried to snatch her bag (CR/011169/16).

Half an hour later in Honestone Street a 58-year-old woman suffered minor injuries from falling after someone tried to snatch her handbag from behind (CR/011173/16).

Bideford Detective Constable John Wright said two offenders dressed in dark clothing were thought to have been involved in the incidents.

“We’d like to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of these incidents,” he said.
