CHILDREN at Burrington Primary School are usually a pretty well-behaved lot; but it was a special canine visitor to the school that stole the show in the obedience stakes last week.

German shepherd Vinni showed pupils just why he is top of the class when it comes to helping police track down criminals, missing people or lost items.

Vinni, who is based in Barnstaple with handler PC Lee Adamson, has only been a fully trained operational police dog for six months and is one of the youngest dogs in the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary.

Yet he had no problems showing off his search and rescue skills at the special visit, organised by officers at South Molton Police Station.
