Police have released an urgent appeal for witnesses after a man and woman were attacked outside of a pub in Westward Ho! on New Year’s Day.

The incident happened at around 12.20am outside of the Waterfront when four men, unknown to the victim, took his scooter without asking and pushed it onto the road.

PC Frank Morgan said: "The victim, a man in his 60s, then confronted the group. The offenders pushed the man to the ground and punched him in the face breaking his glasses and causing visible injury.

"At the same time, the victim's partner was also assaulted and was thrown down a slope outside the Waterfront by an unknown woman.

"The four male suspects were described as white, between 5ft 9ins and 6ft tall, between 20-years-old and 30-years-old and all of a medium size build.

They all had short styled haircuts and were wearing light coloured shirts with dark trousers. One of the men also had a full beard.

"The female suspect is described as white, 5ft 5ins tall with short black hair in a bob style. The woman was wearing a black bomber/loose jacket.

"The pub was extremely busy at the time of the incident and I am urging witnesses and anyone who may have information to come forward to police.

"Both of the victims have suffered as a result of this incident and for their peace of mind need these suspects identified."
