Planning put in for Braunton’s Velator Quay

Velator Quay plan: Braunton Parish Council has lodged plans to demolish part of the crumbling 140 year-old Velator Quay to make it safe.

The scheme includes “naturalising” the site, grading the land behind to form a bank and using the quay spoil to fill in an area next to the site.

The council wants to form a new concrete turning area at the top of the existing slipway and to upgrade the footpath with a hard surface.

Previous reports have said rebuilding the old quay, which is slowly being eroded by the river, could cost three times the amount of the proposed scheme, estimated around 90,000. The application follows public consultation and surveys.
