MORE than 300 people attended a public consultation for a development of 42 homes at Westaway Plain in Barnstaple, on Thursday. The event was held by Devonshire Homes at Yeo Dale Hotel, with project team members on hand to speak to people about the proposals for the land at Pilton, near North Devon District Hospital. The site lies to the north of Westaway Plain and east of Shearford Lane and is partially screened from the road. The scheme would also include pedestrian links between the A39 and the hospital and the public footpath west of the site. It is one of several potential developments in the area identified in North Devon and Torridge district councils latest draft Local Plan. I was very pleased so many people took the time to visit the display and comment on our proposed scheme, said Devonshire Homes land and planning director, Steve Russell. A lot of the discussions focussed on the need for additional housing which is a key part of the Local Plan process; highways and traffic issues, and drainage. Generally there was a warm reception for the scheme and its integration with the existing surrounds. We received a lot of very constructive feedback and this is now being analysed to help us finalise a scheme ready for a planning application during the summer. There was a lot of interest in the type of houses we are proposing to build and those we are currently building at Rumsam Meadows - which is a mix of two, three and four bedroom properties.
