A fitting tribute paid to the fallen at town’s Rock Park war memorial

People in North Devon have been paying their respects during annual Remembrance Sunday parades this morning.

In Barnstaple, many people – young and old – turned out to remember those who died in conflicts since the start of World War One at a civic ceremony at the Rock Park war memorial.

The service, led by the Reverend David Fletcher, was attended by legions of uniformed servicemen and women, as well as the town’s air, sea and army cadet units, cub, scout and brownie packs.

Among the dignitaries who laid wreathes at the cenotaph were North Devon MP Peter Heaton-Jones and Mayor of Barnstaple Val Elkins.

The ceremony was followed by a parade to Barnstaple Parish Church.

On Friday, Barnstaple schoolchildren paid their respects at the war memorial. See our pictures here.
