Ostler’s Cider Mill at Goodleigh celebrates midwinter tradition

Apples were blessed and any lingering evil spirits given their marching orders as Ostler’s Cider Mill hosted its annual wassailing event on Saturday.

Wassailing ‘king’ Ray Thorne poured cider on the tree roots to encourage fertility, and hung cider-soaked toast from the tree branches as gifts to the tree spirits.

The business near Goodleigh hosts the traditional midwinter event each year and it is always a popular gathering for local people keen to keep the winter blues at bay.

There was dancing with Exmoor Border Morris and shots were fired ton ensure those pesky spirits were well and truly departed.

Plus there was live music with The Dead Plants and DJs, as well as plenty of scrumpy cider to sample.
