Wall to wall fancy dress as annual carnival parade takes to the streets

There was plenty of costumed fun for all ages last night (Wednesday) as Combe Martin’s popular carnival parade returned.

An assortment of topical entries made their way along the village’s mile long street to the seafront, where the revelry continued.

This year’s carnival queen was Samantha Stafford and the junior queen was Frankie Cook.

The carnival week activities continue from today (Thursday) with a scavenger hunt at the beach at 2pm and there of Carnival Bingo at the Village Hall this at 7pm.

Friday morning sees the Children’s Pavement Art Competition at Borough Road by the seafront from 10.30-11am, with chalks provided.

At 6.45pm contestants will gather at Holdstone Way at the top of the village for the Wheelbarrow Fiesta and Parade, a mini carnival in its own right, with plenty of odd wheeled creations and inventive entries.

It sets off at 8pm and there is a barbecue on the beach afterwards as well as a fireworks display at around 9.30pm.

The Castle Inn hosts live music with Falling Apart from 10pm.

Saturday is the final day, with a motor show at the coach car park by the Pack O’ Cards from 10am-3pm and Carnival Finale and presentation night will be held at the Village Hall from 7.30pm.

This fun evening includes a disco plus live music from Zamba.
