Organisers have hailed the annual StarTrek night walk a huge success after more than 360 walkers completed the course in record time. The weather was unseasonably mild for the charity event, held this year near the Exmoor Pony Centre at Dulverton and hosted by Ilfracombes Rotary clubs. The teams of walkers had to use their map reading skills and work out clues to follow a 16 mile figure of eight course surrounding base camp. Most opted to complete the full trek, but an eight mile Half Trek course was also available as an option. One team set a new distance record before the event by travelling all the way from France to take part. The proceeds will be divided between North Devon and Childrens Hospice South West plus the Chemotherapy Appeal. StarTrek chairman Ann Doody said sponsorship promised on the night has totalled around £38,000. The walkers arrived to see one of the best sunsets you could ever wish to see, she said. The Ilfracombe Rotary Clubs would like to thank every one that took part, our helpers and sponsors who help us make Startrek a great night out.
