Huge waves batter the promenade as gale force winds and high tides combine to unleash dramatic display of Mother Nature on the North Devon coast

Bideford photographer Graham Hobbs joined wave watchers in Westward Ho! as Storm Imogen pummelled the North Devon coast today (Monday).

Huge Atlantic rollers crashed into the promenade during this afternoon’s high tide, whipping up foam and dumping it over seafront properties.

Staff at the Fairway Buoy had piled sand bags to prevent further damage after waves engulfed the bar this morning, setting alarms off at around 5.45am.

Elsewhere, hundreds of homes and properties in North Devon have been left without power, while in Barnstaple 70mph gusts blew off part of the civic centre roof in Barnstaple this morning.
