The annual May parade complete with drums and giants has made its way through Ilfracombe once again

The weather wasn't quite playing ball but plenty of colourful characters took to the streets of Ilfracombe today (Sunday) for the town's May celebrations.

Now held on Sunday instead of the traditional Monday, the May celebrations and Jack-in-the-Green event saw a parade led by town crier Roy Goodwin make its way through the town.

There were giants, stilt walkers, street drummers Humdrumconundrum and plenty of people dressed in their greenest finery for the May festivities.

A new route fro this year saw it start at the Pier and go along the seafront to the High Street, before returning to the seafront 'clapping circle' for a spot of maypole dancing.

People of all ages took to the maypole while a crowd looked on.

Then the leaf clad 'Jack' was stripped of his greenery so the 'spirit of summer' could be released.

Unfortunately it was raining, but perhaps these things take a little time to work.
