More than 450 soggy fundraisers earned their stripes in style yesterday (Sunday) at the fiendish Mission:Unbreakable event for North Devon Hospice. It is hoped more than £50,000 will be raised from the hospices military-themed obstacle course event, staged over 10km of rugged terrain, starting and finishing at North Molton Sports Club. The teams of Unbreakables taking part were put through their paces by negotiating mud, marshland, rivers, steep hills and dozens of gruelling obstacles, designed with help from commandos and members of 24 Commando Regiment from RMB Chivenor. The event was organised by North Devon Hospice and sponsored by Toller Beattie Solicitors. Gerard Fawcitt from the hospices fundraising team said: Mission:Unbreakable sold out weeks in advance but all those who managed to get a place seemed to really enjoy themselves. It was fantastic to see them coming home caked in mud and soaking wet, yet still with beaming smiles on their faces. Huge thanks need to go to Abbeymead Safety Training for their first aid cover and the local community of North Molton for such unbelievable support throughout. There was praise from the professionals too. WO2 Dave Beresford, an instructor from 24 Commando, added: They have all shown guts, determination and a lot of courage. Some of the obstacles out there were really tough, so it was no mean feat.
