Saunton to feature in new film starring Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey actors

A film crew has been busy shooting scenes for a new movie at Saunton Sands today (Friday).
A Douglas C-47 Dakota aircraft has been filmed taking off and landing on the beach, with actors waving and pointing at the military transporter.

A horse and carriage scene was also shot on the beach, owned by Christie Estates and managed by Saunton Beach Enterprises (SBE).
It is understood the scenes from the one-day shoot will appear in Guernsey, a big-screen adaptation of international best-selling historical novel, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows.

The film, which stars Game of Thrones’ Michael Huisman and Downton Abbey’s Lily James and Jessica Brown Findlay, is set on the Channel Island of Guernsey in the aftermath of World War II.
SBE helped the film crew transport kit – including dressing room trailers – while the Saunton beach tractor was used to tow the plane onto the beach.

Lucie Tamlyn, of SBE said: “We were delighted to host the film shoot at Saunton.
“Once again the beach has served as an impressive backdrop for film and TV and we look forward to seeing it feature on the big screen.”
Filming is taking place throughout April and May, with Bideford and Clovelly among the North Devon locations earmarked by producers.
Earlier this week, the film crew was spotted shooting scenes in Bristol.
Last month, director Mike Newell, who was behind the camera for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Four Weddings and a Funeral, invited would-be extras to an open casting session at Bideford Arts Centre.
