PICTURES: Disruption on the roads due to heavy rainfall in North Devon

North Devon is currently under an amber weather warning as heavy rainfall lashes the region. Latest road, flooding and bus service disruptions here.

Surface water is causing some disruptions on the roads in North Devon.

These photos show water pouring onto the Muddiford Road today (Saturday). It is understood the fire service is on its way to help alleviate the problem.

Other issues have been reported at Prixford as the Met Office cast an amber weather warning over the region.

Heavy surface water has also been reported near Fairy Cross, Bucks Cross and the Hoops Inn on the A39.

North Devon under amber weather warning

Persistent and heavy rain, alongside windy conditions, are expected until 6pm tonight.

A chief forecaster said: “As this rain will be falling on near saturated ground, please be prepared for the risk of localised flooding and some disruption to travel.

“An active frontal zone will move slowly eastwards across the UK during Saturday bringing with it a spell of rain to many areas.

“The rain is expected to be heaviest and most persistent across parts of southwest England.

“30 to 40 mm of rain is expected quite widely across the warning area with 50-70 mm on south facing slopes and as much as 80 mm over parts of Dartmoor.

“In addition, southerly gales or severe gales are expected, with gusts of 40-50 mph inland and locally 65 mph over higher ground and south facing coasts.”

Flood alerts are also in place across the region for coastal areas and the Rivers Taw and Torridge.

Disruption to bus services in North Devon

A number of Stagecoach bus services have been disrupted due to the weather today.

The Barnstaple - Bude services (no 595) has been delayed due to flooding.

The number 75A Bideford - Okehampton will be diverted via Roundswell and Newton Tracey due to flooding at Landcross.

The 319 will operate direct from Bideford toClovelly/Hartland but will not serve Woolsery due to flooding.
