Sir Michael Fallon, the UK’s Defence Secretary, is visiting North Devon today and has arrived at RMB Chivenor to meet North Devon MP Peter Heaton-Jones.

Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon is visiting RMB Chivenor this morning (Friday) - the base he announced he would close by 2027.

Sir Fallon has just arrived at the Royal Marine base to meet with North Devon MP Peter Heaton-Jones.

He will have a tour of the facilities, which are set to close in the next 11 years as part of a Government cost-cutting exercise.

Last year Sir Fallon announced RMB Chivenor would close by 2027.

Depsite this, during his visit Sir Fallon is expected to underline the importance of the South West to the UK’s defence.

It is understood he will talk about supporting defence jobs in the South West.

RMB Chivenor is currently used by the 24 Engineer Regiment, Royal Engineers and Commando Logistics Recruitment.
