Second community ‘spruce up’ day is hailed a great success

Bideford’s second big ‘spruce up day’ on Sunday has been hailed a huge success.

Up to 50 people turned out to don gloves, grab a broom or a litter picker and set to work around the town centre and over at East-the-Water.

Bideford town mayor David Howell said he was delighted at the turn out, as well as the number of people who stopped to say ‘thank you’.

He added: “We found that the evidence of the previous day in April was still there, and there were no areas heavy with litter.

“It was mainly a case of picking up cigarette ends, trying to clean bubble gum away and getting the weeds down a bit.

“The town is looking pretty good. The day was a great success and people enjoyed being out doing something for their community.”

The aim is to hold regular ‘spruce up’ sessions every few weeks and it is hoped to stage another one towards the end of the summer.
