Thousands of people packed Bideford Quay last night to celebrate the towns Christmas light switch on. There was plenty of Christmas cheer as Hopps and Chapple kicked off the entertainment on the Quay at midday. A swarm of Santas flooded the streets for the Santas on the Run race in aid of Childrens Hospice South West. Crowds marvelled at a small herd of reindeer who visited for the occassion, and there were fairground rides and food stands a-plenty. At 5pm. local youngsters George Jeffrey, from Bideford, and Jessica Pritchard, from Westward Ho! pressed the big red button. They were joined by the mayor and mayoress, David and Louise Howell, who said they were delighted at the festive scenes in front of them.
