Urgent repairs are being carried out after gale force winds damaged the roof of the civic centre in Barnstaple. Part of the original annex roof was discovered in the car park earlier this morning (Monday). Council workers have cordoned off part of the pavement and the staff car park. They are understood to be waiting for permission to close the road. A spokesperson for building owner Devon County Council said: Because of the wind part of the original roof of the annex blew down into the car park. Contractor Midas was already on site working and so they are dealing with the issue and making sure everything is safe. As a precaution they have closed the staff car park to make sure there is no damage to vehicles or risk to people.
