Developer DS Wessex has revealed that an eight-metre-wide riverside promenade linking the Tarka Trail to the town centre could be ready by February next year. The opening would coincide with the handover of part of the site to Asda for construction of a new supermarket. Meanwhile, announcements about other firms confirmed for the site are expected within weeks. Project communications manager Lucie Brailsford said: The whole thing is moving on apace and we want to deliver for the people of Barnstaple as soon as we can. Everything is on track. This week, the Gazette was invited to see first-hand the extensive infrastructure works being done by civil engineering firm Andrew Scott Ltd. Work on the former Leaderflush Shapland site has included demolition and flood defence work. The laying down of road surfaces will be one of the next big tasks to complete before work begins on a housing development of up to 170 homes. A public consultation on phase two of the project will be held in August.
