Guildhall is filled to the rafters for annual event which sees Barnstaple fair officially opened.

Barnstaple fair was officially opened this morning (Wednesday).

The town’s great and good were out in force at the Guildhall to hear a number of speeches and to see town clerk Will Austin and mayor Cllr Val Elkins proclaim the ancient fair open.

A procession followed the ceremony, going from the Guildhall towards the Square and circling back via the Heritage Centre on the Strand.

The fair is open until Saturday, with the carnival scheduled for 6pm at North Walk on that day.

Fair queen Jasmin Husband will be crowned at the Heritage Centre at 5.30pm, and the children’s carnival starts at 3pm.
