Residents evacuated as fire fighters deal with blazing diesel tanker near Holsworthy
A tanker carrying 10,000 litres of red diesel was well ablaze on the A388 road near Holsworthy this morning (Tuesday).
The fire service said it had sent six fire engines and two special appliances to the scene.
They said no other vehicles were involved and no one is thought to be injured.
Residents from nearby cottages had to be evacuated
The tanker was fully engulfed in flames and fire fighters had to use foam jets to extinguish the blaze.
The lorry contained the red diesel plus some 600 litres of kerosene, though earlier reports had suggested it was heating oil.
The flames damaged telephone lines overhead and the Environment Agency are currently working at the scene.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
