APPLEDORE hosted its annual World Crabbing Championships last night (Monday) as part of the Appledore and Instow Regatta.
Competitors lined the quayside with buckets and baited crab lines in an attempt to see who could catch the most crustaceans.
Team Ayres scooped first prize, catching 164 crabs, with second place going to Team Surfers with 108 crabs and Team Captain Mev in third with 96 crabs.

Regatta chairman Peter Reveley said: “It was a lovely evening for it, there were lots of visitors and with 82 teams it was a great turnout.”
Events will be running as part of the 129th regatta event.
Tonight (Tuesday) there will be salmon boat racing, with gig boat sprint races tomorrow (Wednesday) from 7pm.
On Saturday Appledore will take on Instow in an ‘across the river’ tug o’ war at midday.
On Sunday the main regatta day will take place in Appledore from 9am with rowing, sailing races, a salmon boat tug o’ war, water jousting and more.
On Instow there will be children’s races, a dog show, a beach clean up and a barbecue, music and stands throughout the day.
The final event will take place on Tuesday, August 7, with gig boat estuary sprints starting at 7.30pm.
