Bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion on Blacksands Beach after World War Two grenade was found.
Lynmouth’s Blacklands Beach was cordoned off yesterday (Wednesday) after a member of the public reported finding a grenade.
Coastguards cordoned off the beach and a bomb disposal team from Plymouth carried out a controlled explosion at around 6pm.
A spokesman for Lynmouth Coastguard Search and Rescue thanked the family who reported the device at around 2pm.
The spokesman added: “If you are ever unsure of an item on any beach please do not touch it, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
It is understood the grenade was from the World War Two era.
