Petroc has had a successful first week of its brand new dental nurse apprenticeship.

Petroc’s first ever dental nurse students have successfully completed the first week of their brand new apprenticeship.

The programme was new to the college this year and is the first of its kind in North Devon.

The Diploma in Dental Nursing, which is a globally recognised Level 3 qualification, enables learners to become fully competent in dental nursing by giving them the knowledge and skills both for direct chairside work and for providing support in a range of dental treatments.

Dental nurse Sarah Huxtable, who teaches on the course, said: “There’s a real demand for dental nurse apprentices in North Devon, so hopefully this course can help meet that demand and also provide fantastic career opportunities for young people in the area.”

Students will get plenty of hands on experience and at the end of the year will be able to work as a dental nurse or study further in dental therapy.

The programme is now looking to recruit its next wave of applicants with limited spaces available in November.
