A ‘pay on exit’ car parking scheme is set to come into effect at two Barnstaple car parks next month.
Work began at Bear Street and Hardaway Head, the site of the former Queen Street multi-storey, at the start of December.
The new barrier system will involve drivers getting a ticket on entry and paying the fee as they leave.
If the scheme is successful it could be rolled out to other North Devon Council-run car parks in the district.
Town centre manager Craig Bulley said: “It’s great that the council is taking this positive step to give shoppers more choice for parking in the town.
“This will make parking more convenient and also benefit our local businesses.”
