PAT Slade, from Westward Ho! has won the Mandy Green Award for community achievement.Pat has worked tirelessly for the last 15 years to help set up and maintain an archive of local life. The register was started in September, 1983 and is now based at Northam Records Office. Pat has continued, even during serious illness, to voluntarily maintain the archive and collate all the material from local newspapers and monumental inscriptions from local churches. Pat's book, Bideford in Old Photographs, is a fascinating glance through local history. She said the community achievement shield would take pride of place in her home until next year. The Mandy Green Award was established by Mandy's family following her death in 2006, as a lasting tribute to a local girl who loved being involved in her community. The hunt for next year's winner starts immediately - for more information and/or a nomination form please call (01237) 423233 or email admin@lundyisland.co.uk
