A SPECIAL partnership between Chulmleigh Pre-school and Chulmleigh Primary school will be recognised at a ceremony next week.

The two schools were the first in Devon to begin working together to share the same space and resources in 2004.

The schools have now attained Foundation Stage Unit status and on Wednesday (September 29), a plaque to mark the achievement will be officially unveiled by Devon County Council's Executive Director for Children and Young People's Services, Anne Whiteley.

Chumleigh head teacher, Richard Samson, said: "It was our dream to provide very high quality early years education, free of transition, where children are taught by a team of highly qualified professionals led by a qualified teacher.

"We have the bonus of pooled resources and a wider staff team, allowing the school to deploy staff more flexibly. We are delighted that we can offer such a good service to our parents."

According to Devon County Council, there are currently 52 nursery classes in Devon schools, 31 of which have expressed an interest in developing a Foundation Stage Unit.
