CHILDREN and parents have added their voices to a growing campaign for a paddling pool in Barnstaple's Rock Park.

Youngsters swapped picnic blankets for inflatable paddling pools at the special sit-in protest organised to coincide with Barnstaple Lions Club's Family Week Picnic on Monday.

Mum-of three Fiona Laing, from Sticklepath, started an on-line campaign in April because she was fed up with the parking charges at North Devon's beaches.

The Facebook campaign has since attracted 1,170 members, while an on-line petition has currently been signed by 221 people.

It has already found support from new Barnstaple Mayor Cllr Ian Roome, who said he would ensure the idea is discussed by a new joint working committee for Rock Park.

Hundreds of families enjoyed the Family Week Picnic in Rock Park.

The venue was selected as one of just eight flagship events in the country. All sorts of entertainment was put on, including Punch & Judy and children's races.
