A CALLOUS thief has stolen essential life saving equipment from the scene of an incident in Bideford.

A response bag was stolen from the car of a rapid response paramedic attending an emergency call in the High Street area of the town during the early hours of yesterday (Thursday) morning.

The bag, an essential piece of equipment used by response crews when attending every 999 call, was allegedly taken while the paramedic was helping to transfer a patient to an ambulance.

The police have been informed and to date the response bag has not been handed in. Anyone with any information is asked to telephone police on 08452 777444.
