THE Bideford newspaper boy has received another boost to help him come home. Bideford Town Council has agreed to give up to 500 towards the project to reinstate the paper boy on his historic vantage point on a shop rooftop in Mill Street. The landmark figure has been missing since damaged by vandals some two years ago, but a group of local people have been raising funds and are hoping to have a replica boy in place this year.A piece of oak has already been found and it is planned that artist and former Burton Art Gallery curator John Butler - well known for his character sculptures - will fashion it into a new paper boy of the same proportions and colouring. The town council's contibution will help towards the estimated cost of between 1,200 and 1,700. Help has also been offered by Bideford Bridge Trust.
