Improvements and expansion of The Panniers will bring 10 more jobs to the business.

One of Barnstaple's Wetherspoon pubs reopens tomorrow (Friday) after a £700,000 refurbishment.

The Panniers has been closed for four weeks while an extension and makeover has taken place.

The new-look Boutport Street pub has been expanded into the premises next door for an extra 1,200sq ft of space.

Inside, a full redecoration has seen the ladies and gents toilets replaced and the disabled facilities refreshed.

New doors have been installed at the front of the building, which can be opened up during the warmer weather on both sides of the shop front. Another small beer garden has also been added.

Behind the scenes, the kitchen has been upgraded to include pizza ovens, and new staff facilities have been added. There are also new self-service coffee machines for customers.

The pub is run by George and Alison Young.

Alison said: "George, myself and our team are looking forward to welcoming customers back into the new look pub and we are confident that they will be impressed by the transformation of the building."

The work will create 10 more full and part-time jobs.

The Panniers originally opened in June 2000.
