A FUN packed week of carnival events in Hartland - including the village's own Olympics - starts with the crowning of the carnival royalty in the parish hall at 7.30pm on Sunday, followed by a concert by the town band. The week continues next Monday with the popular carnival quiz night at the parish hall and on Tuesday there is bingo, again in the parish hall at 7.30 pm, plus the judging of the "best dressed house" competition.Next Wednesday,August 6, brings a "family fun night" at the playing Fields at 6.30 pm. This year's theme is "the Hartland Olympics" so don't forget your running shoes, all ages welcome. The comes the skittles tournament for over-16s on Thursday night, 7.30pm at the parish hall at 7.30. Call Sue Jinks on (01237) 441882 to book.Friday, August 8, brings food for thought, with a cake stall at 7pm followed by a military whist at 8 pm in the parish hall.All week there will be a 'spot-the-mistake' window competition and the finale comes with the carnival procession itself on Saturday, August 9 at 7pm. Ensuring a right royal occasion will be carnival queen Louisa Baird and attendants Hannah Baldwin and Emily Smith, revels queen Leanne Hobbs and attendants Chloe Bennett and Isis Storm, fairy queen Charlotte Colwill and attendants Poppy Clark and Lilly Hunt and pre-school prince and princess Matthew Morgan and Eloise Morecroft.Judging starts at 6pm, but assembly starts at 5pm Northgate Green, North Road and part of School Lane will be closed between 5 pm and 7 pm for the judging and Fore Street, North Street and School Lane will be closed between 7 pm and 8 pm for the carnival procession.Everyone intending to take part in the procession, including walking entries, is asked to collect a safety code from either the Pop In or the Post Office.
