Wales & West Utilities will be carrying out the six week-long works to replace old gas pipes in Market Street, Bideford.

Work will start on Monday to replace 144 metres of old metal gas pipes in Market Place in Bideford.

The scheme by Wales & West Utilities is expected to take six weeks to complete.

Barry Sale, Wales & West Utilities programme controller, said: “The old gas pipes must be replaced as they are becoming unreliable and would lead to us carrying out more and more unplanned repairs if they are not upgraded.

“However, this will be a challenging job for us and in order to keep local people, our workforce and motorists safe while we work, we will need to close Market Square for four weeks over the six week duration of the scheme.

“We will have some work to carry out in the Market Hall, and will arrange to carry this out when the market is not open, so we can minimise disruption to local traders and their customers.”
