Around 100 former Barnstaple Boys Secondary Modern School pupils swapped tales from the classroom at a reunion on Saturday night. Old school friends travelled from far and wide to be at the event at Barnstaple Rugby Club some even making the long trip from Australia and America. Patrick Larson travelled from Australia, while George Roberts and Paul Harris crossed the Atlantic from America. The third full reunion of the school which was also known as Derby College and Blacksells Academy was organised by retired painter and decorator Gerald Thorne, who was a pupil from 1950 to 1955. Similar get-togethers were held in 2015 and 2014. Gerald said: It was a fantastic night, lovely to catch up with everyone again. Id say there were more than 100 there, some of them I hadnt seen for 40 years. A draw and collection on the night raised £600 for the charity Everything Ellie.
