A scheme to improve the grounds at a Barnstaple primary school will be officially opened on Monday. The £150,000 development at Yeo Valley Primary has provided an outdoor classroom, a sports area for ball games, a nature area with a pond, an eating area with picnic tables and an organic garden. The grounds were left untidy and messy after buildings suffering from concrete cancer were demolished. But Yeo Valley headteacher Jan Reid says the scheme has created a wonderful outdoor learning space for the children."They are absolutely loving it," she said. "Some of our children don't have gardens at home to play in so this is vital open space."The grounds will be officially opened by the Chairman of Devon County Council, John Rawlinson, at 2pm on Monday.Devon County Council provided £100,000 towards the development and the rest has come from parents and grants.Devon County Council leader Brian Greenslade, who is the local county councillor, said: "I am delighted we have been able to help provide these splendid outdoor facilities for the children and staff at the school.
