QUALIFIED divers are being invited to go aboard the Lundy supply ship MS Oldenburg at Bideford Quay next Wednesday evening. The invitation comes from Appledore Sub-Aqua Club, which is holding a free open evening on board, starting at 7.30pm. The club is hoping to increase its membership. Club chairman Mike Deaton said: "While there has been a trend towards people learning to dive on holiday in warmer waters, those that take the plunge and transfer their skills to UK waters are surprised by the vibrant colours and diversity of fish life, invertebrates, marine mammals and corals that abound our own shores."With the wonders of Lundy's Marine Nature Reserve on our doorstep, local divers are privileged to be able to experience some of the best reefs and wrecks in UK waters." During almost four decades of diving, members of Appledore club have built up a wealth of experience and local knowledge and have introduced many divers to this abundance of marine life. It also offers opportunities for local divers to discover underwater photography, marine archaeology, explore historic shipwrecks and to enjoy the marine life and benefits of diving within a local club.
