DESPITE a mixed bag of weekend weather culminating in an unseasonal storm on Sunday, the GoldCoast Oceanfest at Croyde still managed to pack 'em in and provide a spectacle for all ages. The region's top sport and lifestyle event had everything during its three days from international stars in the form of Californian surf-musician Donavon Frankenreiter to daily shows of power and agility by the Typhoon Eurofighter. The power of nature was displayed on Sunday, though and following advice the stage was closed due to high winds - but undaunted musicians and audience moved into the beer tent for an acoustic open mic session. Some events had to be called off, including the Big Boy Paddle Race and foot volley, but the weekend as a whole certainly provided plenty for visitors to see and do.The traditional schools Education Day on Friday for Year 6, supported by the North Devon Gazette, which donated £400 in sports voucher prizes, saw hundreds of children descend on the beach and arena for flag relays, educational activities and much more.Festival directors Warren and Shaun Latham said they were "exceptionally delighted with another successful weekend of sport, music, brilliant athletes and a great mix of local and international musical talents.""It was well attended and aside from the constraints of the weather there were absolutely no other problems," added Warren."As normal it was smooth enjoyable family fun which GoldCoast has become famous for. We wish to thank everybody who helped to make the weekend a success, from the police and parish council to all our partners who ensured everything went so smoothly."Results: Legacy Ironman: 3rd, Andy Byatt (Eng ); 2nd, Garon Thomas (Wales); 1st Dan Humble (Australia.)Legacy Diamond Lady: 3rd Lana Evans (Wales); 2nd Rhian Thomas (Wales); 1st Sara Rowe (Eng.)
