The surgery in Bay View Road is celebrating its outstanding report a week after one of its GPs was awarded an MBE.

Northam Surgery is enjoying a double celebration after being awarded as outstanding in its latest CQC report - the week after one of their doctors was awarded an MBE.

Garry Higgins, head of inspection for general practice in CQC's South region said: "It is clear Northam Surgery is providing an effective, responsive and well led service which is a real asset to the people living in this part of Devonshire.

"The practice had a clear vision and strategy to deliver this vision had been produced with stakeholders and was regularly reviewed and discussed with staff."

Sam Shortridge, group practice manager, said it was great news for the management team, who have only been working together for around 18 months and are relatively new.

She said: "Everyone here has played a part and we're very proud of the team.

"It is the best feeling to be told we're outstanding."

Last week GP Dr Robin Buckland was awarded an MBE in the Queen's birthday honours for his work with children.
