The 47-year-old from Northam pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children at North Devon Magistrates’ Court.

A Northam man has pleaded guilty to six counts of possessing indecent images of children.

Paul Sharp, 47, of Bidna Lane, appeared at North Devon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The court heard the images found on a mobile phone depicted children as young as five-years-old.

Sharp was found guilty of possessing the images between January 2012 and February 2016 in Bideford.

The images included Category A photographs – the most serious kind.

Magistrates agreed the matter was so serious it fell outside of their powers and should be committed to the crown court for sentencing.

Sharp will appear at Exeter Crown Court on June 20.

He was released on conditional bail and magistrates also ordered a pre-sentence report be written by the probation service.
