Grant will help the youth group in Northam keep running with its 54 members.

Northam Town Council has donated £100 towards The YOUTH! group.

The group started four years ago and is run by volunteers, with some help from parents.

It currently has 54 members, ranging from eight to 16 years old, from Northam, Appledore and Bideford.

It relies completely on charitable funding.

Secretary Leigh Strange said: “The money received goes towards our running costs and the cost of buying cooking and craft materials, which enables our young people to learn some basic life skills and develop their confidence, while having fun with their friends.”

YOUTH! meets on the last Saturday every month, 6.30-8pm, at The Methodist Church Hall in Northam.

It offers young people a chance to meet new friends and play pool, table tennis and table football, as well as cook.

There are also trips and activities, which have included skating, treasure hunts, cycle rides, family barbecues and beach days.

Members of YOUTH! accepted the money from the council from Northam town mayor Barry Edwards at its meeting last week.
