Communities across North Devon have been hoisting a mug to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support today (Friday)

People across North Devon have been raising a mug today (Friday) for the World's Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan.

Schools, shops, businesses, parish halls and groups of friends have been hosting coffee mornings and selling cakes.

Last year nationwide Macmillan raised £29.5million for the care of cancer patients and their families.

The main sponsor is M&S and at M&S Barnstaple customers joined staff for a cuppa to help raise money.

The M&S Café has donated 5p from every hot drink and slice of cake sold throughout September.

Plus M&S is stocking a range of limited-edition Macmillan homeware items, including a colourful 'Best Baker' cake slice, set of cake forks and 'Love a Cuppa' mug as well as an array of chic bag accessories - including key ring and pen - designed by artist Rob Ryan.

At Wyevale Garden centre, Ashford, a whopping £604.40p was raised from generous customers.

Organiser pat Hughes said a huge thanks was owed to Robert Brookes at the garden centre as well as all those who helped out, made cakes, donated prized, manned stalls and sold tickets.

A total of £323.95 plus £24 in Gift Aid was raised at Kingsley Hall in Westward Ho! on September 22.

Giffords Chartered Accountants in Bideford held a Biggest Coffee Morning plus and official opening of its new premises with Bideford mayor Dermot McGeough doing the honours today.
