Mountain of food, treats and toasty bedding heading out to needy dogs and cats this Christmas.

MANY of North Devon’s four-legged friends will once again enjoy a happier Christmas thanks to the generosity of the region’s animal lovers.

The annual pet appeal organised by Joanne and Jim Bell from Yelland has recorded its best year yet, with a small mountain of pet food, toys, blankets, bedding and accessories ready to be distributed to needy dogs and cats locally.

As with last year, the respective canine and feline donations will be delivered to Dogs Trust Ilfracombe plus the Barnstaple, Holsworthy and district branches of Cats Protection.

“We’re really grateful that we have had so much this year, more than ever before and we’ve been amazed at how generous people are,” said Mrs Bell.

“In fact, we couldn’t keep it all in our garage and had to transfer it to our tree house in the garden – the only other premises which were dry!

“We must have had about two car loads of dog supplies alone, plus many blankets people have knitted. It just keeps growing and getting bigger, but we hope to do even more next year.”
