DAISY the life sized fibreglass cow and Danny the Devon Love Bug will be hoping to lure holidaymakers to Devon as they embark on separate national tours as part of the Love My Devon campaign and competition.Helen Blackman from Ilfracombe and Anne Tattersall of Torrington are the two North Devon finalists of the Love My Devon campaign organised by Visit Devon, which sought local people prepared to hit the road and use their love of the county to tempt holidaymakers into seeing for themselves what makes Devon special.Helen (with Daisy the cow) and Anne (with a VW Beetle called Danny,) will compete against each other and a group from South Devon to be the contestant who generates the most positive nationwide media value through their campaign. Each has been given expenses of £2,000 and is hitting the road this month to compete for the title and the chance of a £10,000 prize. Helen, 25, husband Joel and the talking cow have set off on a fun-filled, wacky and celebrity supported road trip around the county, to meet and talk to local characters, join in with some of the Devon's unique activities and gather plenty of ammunition from its best features to prove why it is the place to visit."Daisy will be experiencing the delights of Devon, showing people what is great about it and then demonstrating to the rest of the country why Devon is the top place to be," said Helen. "We are going to be trying to position Daisy in some very interesting places, including the Bullring Centre in Birmingham - and perhaps some surfing!"Anne and Danny are setting off this week and all manner of escapades are expected as they tour the UK and distribute tasty Devon foodstuffs to people they meet. "Danny is a real head turner," said Anne. "He is fitted with eyelids and lashes and has been liveried for the Love My Devon campaign. We hope with his pretty eyes and beautiful body he is sure to woo people from all over the UK to visit Devon in 2009 - it has so many great tourist offerings, - from rugged coast lines, sandy beaches and some of the best family attractions and accommodation in the world." Anne, a former Mayor of Torrington, has spent several years working in marketing for Devon attractions and organisations.Helen is no stranger to promoting her home county, either, having set up www.wildcurl.co.uk, a guide to the best events, food and entertainment of North Devon. The Blackmans will be using their tour to raise money and awareness for Devon charity CHICKS.
