Lynton and Lynmouth Councillor John Patrinos has been selected as the new chairman for North Devon Council’s overview and scrutiny committee.

Mr Patrinos, an independent councillor, was selected for the role by fellow shadow councillors at a full council meeting on Wednesday.

The committee meets regularly to scrutinize the workings of council departments, as well as decisions taken by the council’s executive and senior officers.

He replaces Councillor Brian Greenslade, who was removed as chairman following a public censure from Devon County Council after allegations of sexual harrasment against county council staff.

Councillor Greenslade attended Wednesday’s full council meeting as a non-aligned councillor and stood to speak regularly over the course of Wednesday’s hour-long meeting.

No reference was made to the allegations during the meeting, unlike at last week’s Devon County Council meeting, when Councillor Emma Brennan said she found it ‘disgusting’ to be sharing the chamber with the Barnstaple councillor.
