NORTH Devon MP Nick Harvey will welcome home troops from the 24 Commando Engineers in Braunton next week.Wednesday's home coming parade will set off from the Caen Street car park at approximately 3.15pm following a medal presentation ceremony by senior officers. The regiment will then march through Braunton and make its way to St Brannock's Church for a Service of Thanksgiving."It is with great pride that I am looking forward to helping to officially welcome home Chivenor-based 24 Commando Engineer Regiment," said Mr Harvey."This relatively new unit having recently returned from a successful six month deployment in Afghanistan sadly did not go unscathed."However, the medal parade will be an occasion for celebration for a job well done and for the local community to show its gratitude and support."As many people as possible have been urged to welcome the troops safely home by lining Caen Street and Chaloners Road as they parade past. Space inside the church is expected to be limited but all are welcome to turn out to see the parade arrive and listen to the service from outside.Villagers are advised the overflow section of the car park will be closed the day before the parade for a tidy up, but the main section will be open.
