THE Audit Commission is putting North Devon Council's housing services under the spotlight next week. A team of inspectors will be talking to council staff, councillors and partner agencies as well as checking housing plans and policies, during a week-long visit to the Civic Centre, Barnstaple. The inspectors will be looking at how easy the housing service is to use, how well the council is tackling the housing problem and if it provides good advice and support to those with housing needs. Portfolio holder for housing Cllr Andrea Davis said: "We are currently facing many challenges in housing, but our housing service is well placed to face the times ahead. "Our rough sleeper strategy recently received national recognition and is now being used as an example of best practice. The number of families in temporary accommodation is at an all time low as a result of the proactive approach taken by the Council."We look forward to the inspection and hope to learn how we can improve the service we provide to the residents of North Devon."The results of the inspection will not be known until May, when they will be published on the Audit Commission and Council websites.
