A North Devon hotel is celebrating after being ranked seventh in the world and among the best in the UK by TripAdvisor. The Old Rectory Hotel at Martinhoe was also named second in the UK in the annual Travellers Choice Awards small hotel category. Meanwhile, Varley House in Ilfracombe has hit the awards for the first time, ranked 14th in the UK in the bargain hotel category. North Devon has scored well this year, with Woolacombe Beach named best in the UK and 13th in the world, while Saunton Beach came in at 17th in the UK. The Milky Way won a UK ranking of seventh in the amusement parks section. The awards take into account the quality and quantity of review comments placed on TripAdvisor. The Old Rectory, owned by Huw Rees and Sam Prosser, has now achieved high rankings for six years in a row and Huw said they were delighted. Its a massive reflection on our team, who are all local people, he said. It keeps our profile high, which is good news for the business and for tourism in the area. Varley House at Chambercombe is owned by Rod and Helen Chatfield. Rod said they were surprised but pleased at the news: I am quite chuffed to get something like that, he said. Our motto is treat people as you would expect to be treated, so we are very pleased to be among the top 25 in the country.
