Her Majesty turned 90 on April 21 but will celebrate her official birthday next week, a tradition started by George II in 1748. Devon County Council said it had received more than 30 requests for road closures across the county for street parties, including for Butchers Row in Barnstaple. Local traders have joined forces with Barnstaple Town Centre Management to hold the event from 11am to 3pm. Tables will be laid out along Butchers Row and people are being encouraged to bring a picnic or buy some of the local produce on offer. Meanwhile on June 12 Belmont Road residents will be holding a street party complete with bouncy castle and skittle alley, while over in Rock Park, Barnstaple Lions Club is holding a royal knees up in Rock Park from 10.45am. South Molton is planning its own celebration in the pannier market on June 12, from 12.15pm-4pm. The free event will feature a feast of entertainment, including a giant Union Jack birthday cake. There will also be an arts and crafts talent show in South Molton Parish Church, featuring more than 50 exhibitors, from June 10-12. In Ilfracombe, the Landmark Theatre is hosting a Queens birthday garden concert, with a toast to the Queen at 12.30pm led by the town crier and the La La Voices in concert from 3.30pm, with guest appearances by Charles Dickens, Mr Alexander and others. Torrington will be holding a birthday party in honour of the Queen in the Square on June 12. See the list below for details of other parties planned. Have we missed any?
