North Devon’s appetite for mud and obstacles seems only to have grown over the lockdown, as next month’s Mission: Unbreakable commando challenge sold out within a just few weeks of going on sale.

The October 10 event raises funds for North Devon Hospice, as competitors are sponsored to tackle 10km of mud, marsh, rivers, hills and dozens of fiendish obstacles, designed with RMB Chivenor’s 2 4 Commando Engineer Regiment.

One team who will be back for another crack at the course are from Wollens solicitors.

“We have taken part in Mission: Unbreakable every year and can’t wait to be back. It’s a fantastic team building opportunity,” said Jon Dunkley, a company partner based at Wollens’ Barnstaple office.

“We love coming together and tackling the course as a team, and we really do help each other out. It can be pretty daunting taking on some of the obstacles, such as the Sheep Dip where you have to go through an underwater tunnel. But we support one another the whole way round and when we finish, we know we have achieved something special.”

The team from Wollens solicitors are motivated to take part to support those being cared for by North Devon Hospice. “This has been an incredibly tough time for charities like the hospice,” said Jon.

“Mission: Unbreakable had to be cancelled in 2020, along with all of the hospice’s fundraising events. But despite that, their care had to continue because local people simply needed that support. It means we all need to get behind our hospice more than ever, to help those patients and families who rely on the care provided.

Jess Burford Redgrove, from North Devon Hospice, said it was such a pleasure to bring Mission: Unbreakable back this autumn, with the support of Wollens solicitors. “It was heart-breaking to have to cancel in 2020, because this event has such a following now. We are so happy to be back and so grateful for the support of Wollens solicitors as our long-term partners. Their support helps make Mission: Unbreakable such an amazing event, which is now always a sell-out event raising vital funds for the hospice.”

Mission: Unbreakable takes place on October 10, with competitors tackling a course set among the rolling hills surrounding North Molton.

The 2021 event is sold out, but keep an eye on North Devon Hospice’s social media channels for news about when entries for 2022 will open.
